WHAT CAN YOU DO?

I do digital art and photomanipulation: I don't do freehand or traditional illustrations. I do book covers, layouts, mockups and more, usually with a fantasy, dark, sci-fi theme... Obviously I'm open to any other genre, but I reserve the right to refuse the commission if I deem it not up to my skills, offensive, illegal, etc...

ARE YOUR BOOK COVERS FOR AMAZON?

I can make covers for any need or platform or typography! Simply choose the format and check the sending specifications. However, I'm specialized on Amazon and KDP, a platform on which I'm also an author, so I can give some more advice or tips even during publication!

HOW DO YOU MANAGE SIGNATURES AND CREDITS?

My signature is on all of my works, placed in small size and in a way that doesn't disturb the balance of the graphics. It can be a digitally written watermark, or a freehand signature. In book covers, it is usually located on the back, in the outer corner. As a customer you cannot remove the signature for any reason! Credits are also welcome in the copyright page (especially for ebook covers that have no signature on the front). You can write "Graphic design", or similar, "by Giulia Calligola - Lunar Morrigan Arts". Remember that in some cases it may be necessary to cite other artists (photographers for resources, models...), in which case, I provide you with all the names and it's up to you, the author, to report them in your copyright page!

WHAT CAN I DO WITH YOUR GRAPHICS?

From the moment of delivery, you can use the artwork for your own project, the one it was commissioned for! If it's a cover, you can print it on your books, share it online, use it for billboards, merchandising, gadgets, sponsorships... whatever you need! The only limit is not to remove the signature, not to pass off the work as yours, not to have it modified... in general, good faith is enough, and for all the useful uses for your project, you can do as you please! If in doubt, ask: I'm always available and I don't bite, I swear! (well... not always!)

CAN I SHARE ONLINE THE ARTWORK OR ORGANIZE A COVER REVEAL?

Of course, I'd be glad! And if you like, you can tag me, I'm on almost all social networks! I usually share my artworks too, in conjunction with the author/client (I usually wait up to 6 months if you want to keep an exclusive for a cover reveal).

WHAT IF I FIND A PUBLISHING HOUSE?

Publishers usually do not maintain graphics created by external designers. But if it should happen, of course I'm more than willing to grant the license to whoever takes over the work! However, I must be informed and put in contact with the Publishing House to discuss any extended license, credits in the colophon, and so on.

HOW DOES A COMMISSION WORK?

Let's start from your idea, if you have one, or let's brainstorm to find one! We'll talk about the story, the genre, the target (in the case of covers). After that, I will offer you some ideas and concepts. If you like the idea, once it's approved, I start working on it. I deliver the work already semi-final (I don't usually show the drafts, because they're usually not good-looking and they may give you the wrong idea of what you will receive!). If there's a few small changes to be made, those can be done. And then the artwork is ready for use! I apply price increases (for which I always warn anyway), only in case the graphics have to be completely redone on another concept, or for important changes not foreseen in the original project.

HOW DO THE LAYOUTS WORK?

Layouts can be very simple or very complex. We talk about what you would like, the genre, the target. If I've already made the cover, I'll take care of ruse some similar graphic elements. Before working on the full manuscript, however, I'll give you one or more test pages, with some generic text, to show you the design. Once approved, I'll go apply it to all of the text, and deliver it all to you in a print-ready format! Warnings for this type of work: the file on which I work must be an editable format (usually .docx) ordered and above all correct. No corrections can be made after delivery (such as a "ready for print" from a publishing house!). So I suggest you give it an extra read, just to be safe! You don't have to do anything else specific to the file (I'll add indexes, page numbers, blank pages, title page, colophon...). It just has to be a finished file from a stylistic/narrative point of view, and as clear as possible to work with (clearly mark the beginning of the chapters, for example, don't put decorations...).

WHAT FORMATS DO YOU DELIVER?

All those you need! I usually deliver images (especially those aimed at online sharing) in JPEG or PNG. Files for printing are always in PDF (non-editable, even for layouts). Ebooks are usually in both word and epub formats. As for the sizes, even those are completely customizable!
